So, we know we said we were not going to post for a week but life is so exciting we wanted to catch you up (really we are in the train station in Pamplona for the next hour before our train back to our home in San Sebastian). We woke up this morning all ready to begin the fiesta, put on our white dresses, and boarded the train for Pamplona, only to find out that the real fiesta starts on the 6th with the first running on the morning of the 7th. oops...good thing we booked an extra day in northern Spain, we will just have to come back tomorrow.
Anyways, San Sebastian is wonderful. We are staying in a guest house owned by a man and wife, though we have only met the small quirky man. We even get our own room! We are quite spoiled being only two blocks to the smaller less crowded beach with plenty of entertainment from the surfers riding in the HUGE waves, or just sitting in the water like turtles. The beach is beautiful in a U shape surrounded by a mountain on both sides. The water gets very deep immediatly so you have to time your run into the ocean so you dont get crushed but can then relax floating forever.
The people here really abide by the Spanish time schedule because absolutly nowhere is open between 12 and 4 and it is impossible to find a resteraunt serving anything but tapas before 9 pm. We enjoy it though because it gives us plenty of time to hop from place to place tasting the Spanish wines, vino tinta. It is only a problem when we (liz) reaches the hunger point, but we have found the remedy for that is amazing gelato. On the other side of town there are plently of shops, resteraunts, and bars where we spend our time post siesta. We found a great bar we like called La fuego negra whos sign projected vinyl and used cassette tapes as their table reservers-just our kind of place.
so long for now, see you post runnning with the bulls, in Madrid!
love, Liz and Hall

San Sebastian sounds awesome! We are very jealous about your beach time but got a big laugh out of your scheduling glitch. You are so organized I can't believe that happened. Glad you will get to see the bulls this week but remember to look and not run!
ReplyDeleteLane and the EHS group made it to Berlin and I'm sure he is having a blast. Mr. Lovell "lost" his computer so we may not get a blog from them on this trip.
Had a great July 4th despite the rain showers. Awesome Fireworks and new patriotic music selections (From Cher singing national anthem to the Boston Pops). Everyone loved the new painting in the front hall and wanted to hear about your adventures. Mom is doing great and helped out with the Watermelon balls for the cosmos.
Keep the posts coming and don't get too addicted to those siestas!
Love, Dad and Keith
